Much of the information we absorb on a daily basis is so negative. It can be really easy to just throw your hands up in the air and think that there are too many problems out there to make a difference.
One thing we have been surprised and inspired by is just how many people there are out there who are willing to give their time to help those in need.
Musical Challenge is about profiling musicians and other individuals who give of their time to help others. Telling good stories that motivate us all to give what little we have to someone or something in need.

Our first case study is Russ Pearce giving his time to help homeless kids and kids in trouble…
At the start of 2009 I started up a music project with Marist Youth Care, teaching kids how to write music. More than just writing music, our aim was to actually write a positive song. My first group were mostly mid to late teenagers who have had extremely difficult upbringings.
So I thought, rather than focus on their dark past, we’d focus on a bright future. Along with the fantastic teachers and carers (many of who play music as well) we completed a term of the most amazing songs. What astounded me was the incredible talent and the most positive and powerful lyrics I have ever come across. They’ve been to hell and back, and yet they are so positive! I found it truly inspiring.
It shows that music can truly heal even some of the deepest cuts life may throw at us. Below are some of the lyrics from those who contributed. We have also attached one of the songs from Cassie who had only learnt to play two weeks prior to singing and recording this on her own! What an AMAZING story. Be inspired !!!
Most of these kids have made it to ‘the other side’, so to speak. Let’s call on their experience to shine the light for other kids who are really struggling out there, to be an inspiration to them.
